About Govt. Thakur Ranmat Singh College
Govt. Thakur Ranmat Singh College of Excellence in Madhya Pradesh is a historic and prestigious institution established in 1869 by Maharaja Raghuraj Singh of Rewa. It began as a public school, became a high school in 1882, and was affiliated with the University of Kolkata in 1884, then with the University of Allahabad in 1891-92.
In 1935, it was upgraded to an intermediate college, and a new building was constructed in 1938 by Maharaja Gulab Singh. By 1944, it started offering graduation courses, gaining degree status. In 1957, it was renamed to honor freedom fighter Shaheed Thakur Ranmat Singh.
Initially affiliated with the University of Agra and later with the University of Sagar, since 1968, it has been affiliated with Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa. This college is renowned as a ‘Heritage College’ in the Vindhya region for its long-standing educational contributions.
Govt. Thakur Ranmat Singh College in Rewa became an Autonomous College in 1995, recognized by UGC. In 2001, the Government of Madhya Pradesh declared it a Centre for Excellence. It received an ‘A’ grade from NAAC on January 29, 2009, with a CGPA of 3.01 out of 4. In 2010, UGC also named it a College with Potential for Excellence.
