SA Youth Teacher Assistant Application Form 2024/2025 | Initiative Phase 5 Applications

The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) has been extended, and many people are eager to know when they can apply for phase 5 of the teaching assistant jobs. The education department has provided an update.

Earlier this year, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced that the PYEI will continue into 2024, creating thousands of jobs for young people as teaching and general school assistants across the country. So far, the PYEI has given employment opportunities to more than 1.7 million youth, who not only earn money but also receive skills development training to improve their future job prospects.

With this announcement, many young people are waiting for the teaching assistant applications to open. Currently, the fourth phase of the PYEI is ongoing, and the education department is accepting applications for these positions.

Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr. Reginah Mhaule warned the public to only apply for teaching assistant positions advertised by the education department. This caution comes after several fake job ads have been circulating on social media, asking youth to apply for these positions.

When Is Phase Five Opening Applications?

The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) has gone through four phases, creating over 1.7 million job opportunities for young people across all nine provinces of South Africa. Over one million young people have been employed through this program.

The PYEI, also known as the Basic Education Employment Initiative, completed its fourth phase in September 2024. While the extension of the PYEI has been announced and a substantial budget has been allocated, there is no official start date for phase 5 yet.

Since there is no current phase active, there are no teaching assistants employed in the Basic Education Sector at the moment.
