About JK College
J. K. College, also known as Jagannath Kishore College, is the oldest college in Purulia district, West Bengal, India. Founded in 1948, it provides undergraduate courses in commerce, arts, and sciences, along with postgraduate courses in mathematics, history, and English.
The college is affiliated with Sidho Kanho Birsha University and recently marked its 75th anniversary. Jagannath Kishore College, founded in 1948, began as a private college affiliated with Patna University.
It was the first college in the Manbhum district of Bihar, which is now Purulia district in West Bengal. The college was established with the help of a donation of one lakh rupees from Gokul Kumari Devi, the widow of Sri Jagannath Kishor Lal Sing Deo of the Kashipur Raj.
Additionally, Shankarlal Singhania, a well-known businessman of that time, contributed sixteen thousand rupees. The college, named after Jagannath Kishorlal Sing Deo, started with 109 students in the I.A. course.
