Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2025-26 Deadline & Requriement

Every year, Gates Cambridge provides around 80 full scholarships for exceptional students from outside the UK to study any postgraduate course at the University of Cambridge. About two-thirds of these scholarships are for PhD programs. There are roughly 25 scholarships available for applicants from the US and about 55 for students from other countries.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2025-26 Deadline

Applications for the 2025-26 academic year will start being accepted in September 2024. The deadline for the online application form will be October 2024. So the candidates who want to apply online application need to wait until the September 2024.

At any given time, around 250 Gates Cambridge Scholars from about 50 countries are studying at the University of Cambridge. They cover a wide range of subjects and are distributed across various departments and colleges, creating a unique community.

Additionally, there are over 1,700 Gates Cambridge Scholar Alumni around the world who have completed their studies and continue to be part of the global network.

Who Are Eligible For The Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2025?

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:

A citizen of any country outside the UK
Applying for one of these courses at the University of Cambridge:
PhD (full-time or part-time*)
MLitt (full-time)
A one-year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions
For entry in October 2024, Gates Cambridge is testing a new option that lets applicants apply for funding for a part-time PhD.

If you’re already studying at Cambridge and want to start a new postgraduate course, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. For example, if you’re currently doing an MPhil, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD.

Existing Gates Cambridge Scholars can also apply for a new scholarship if they are starting a different degree. Current Cambridge students will be considered in the second, international round of applications.

However, if you’re already halfway through a course, like a PhD, you can’t use a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to cover the rest of it.

Courses Not Covered by Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Gates Cambridge Scholarships do not cover:

Any undergraduate degrees, like a BA or a second BA
MASt courses
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Executive MBAs and Global EMBA programs
Master of Finance (MFin)
Executive Master of Accounting
Business Doctorate (BusD)
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
Clinical studies like MBBChir
MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time, for home students only)
Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
Part-time degrees other than PhDs
Non-degree programs

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship program was created in October 2000 thanks to a significant donation of $210 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge.

The first group of scholars began their studies in October 2001. Since then, the program has given over 2,000 scholarships to students from more than 100 countries.
