About The Brij University

Maharaja Surajmal Brij University, originally known as Brij University, is a state university located in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. The main campus is situated outside the main city, in the Kumher area, and includes academic and administrative buildings, an examination section, and residential facilities.

The university was established in 2012 by the Government of Rajasthan through the Brij University, Bharatpur Act, 2012. K. D. Swami was the first Vice-Chancellor. The Governor of Rajasthan serves as the Chancellor of the university. In 2014, the university was renamed Maharaja Surajmal Brij University to honor Maharaja Surajmal, following an amendment to the original act.

In April 2016, K. D. Swami resigned from his position, citing harassment by Vijay Bansal, who in turn accused Swami of administrative and financial misconduct. Ashwani Kumar Bansal was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in February 2017, and he was succeeded by R.K.S. Dhakarey in February 2020. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Ramesh Chandra, PhD, FRSC (London), from the University of Delhi.

The university affiliates colleges from the Deeg, Bharatpur, and Dholpur districts of Rajasthan. As of 2019, the university has affiliations with three law colleges, 23 B.Ed/M.Ed colleges, 16 undergraduate/postgraduate colleges, and 19 integrated B.Ed. colleges.
