In the Edo State governorship election, results for 16 out of 18 local governments have been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). So far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has won in 11 local governments, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has won in five. According to INEC’s report at the State Collation Centre on Sunday, Okpebholo secured victories in local governments including Esan West, Owan West, Uhunmwonde, Egor, Akoko-Edo, Esan Central, Orhionmwon, Owan East, Etsako Central, Etsako West, and Etsako East.
Asue Ighodalo Wins Polling Unit
Asu Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State governorship election, has won his polling station, Unit 3, Ward 1, Iwohimi, Esan South-East, Edo State. Ighodalo got 200 votes while Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 45 votes. Earlier, Ighodalo had expressed concern over the late arrival of INEC officials and polling materials at some polling stations.
Monday Okpebholo Wins Edo Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the 2024 Edo State governorship election. Okpebholo, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), won with 291,667 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Asu Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, finished third with 22,763 votes.
The state’s Returning Officer, Professor Farouk Adamu Kuta, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared Okpebholo the winner. Although the race between Okpebholo and Ighodalo was initially close, Okpebholo ultimately received more votes.
